Sawtry Village Car

CARESCO is a partner in the Village Car Scheme, acting as the local contact point. Originally started in 2002 in partnership with Peterborough Dial-a-Ride and Cambridgeshire County Council, the Scheme offers car lifts to anyone who has difficulty using public transport. With a local team of volunteer drivers, the Scheme is now managed by Nene & Ouse Community Transport based in Thrapston - who also manage a number of other Schemes.

Journeys can be for a wide range of reasons including shopping, appointments or visiting. However, drivers cannot be expected to wait for more than two hours. In which case the driver could return home and passenger would be expected to pay for a double journey.

How to book a journey

Giving as much notice as possible, passengers are asked to phone TVC on 01832 733336 to book their journey. Nene & Ouse Community Transport will then try to find a volunteer driver who is willing to be available and puts them in touch with the passenger.

Fares

The fare is currently 40p per mile from the driver's home and back, with a minimum charge of £2.00 and must be paid in cash to the driver at the end of the journey.

Nene & Ouse Community Transport Membership Fees

Passengers are also asked to pay an annual £15.00 membership fee to Nene & Ouse Community Transport which entitles them to use any of the services they provide. Anyone wanting more information about the Scheme, either as a passenger or a volunteer driver should phone: 01832 733336.
